Gatamaiyo Water Project to Serve over 2000 residents in Malewa West

Written by Jilopa K Ezra

More than 2,000 residents of the Gatamaiyo area in Malewa West ward, Gilgil sub-county will have access to safe and clean drinking water at their homes once the ongoing laying of the 3.3km water network and the connection of the existing 7km pipeline is complete. The project also includes the construction of a 50m³ water tank and the installation of solar.

The installation of solar panels to replace the electricity-powered pumps will help reduce the operation cost of various boreholes, consequently reducing the cost of water to residents and making it sustainable.

County Executive Committee Member for Water and Environment Dr Nelson Maara, during the inspection, reiterated that this project aligns with H.E. Governor Susan Kihika’s commitment to the provision of clean, safe drinking water to Nakuru County residents.

“This water project will have a great impact on the livelihood of area residents. The distance covered by residents looking for water will be greatly reduced, thereby translating saved time to productive hours,” he added.

Area MCA Hon. Francis Kuria welcomed the new development in the area, appreciating H.E. Governor Susan Kihika for prioritizing water projects in Nakuru County. He further acknowledged the initiative as a source of income for youths working at the project site.

Accompanying them were the ward Admin Simon Kamau, water officer John Maina, and ward coordinator James Njuguna, amongst other officials
